When fertilizing your lawn, be aware that a portion of the fertilizer you are applying may end up in the city’s waterways due to runoff. Be sure the application rate is appropriate and avoid applying on slopes or near waterways. Also, practice environmentally beneficial lawn maintenance such as leaving clippings on the lawn and not mowing grass too short.
Fertilizers containing phosphorus are now banned from use in Wisconsin unless you can meet the criteria for the limited exceptions. Check with your local garden supply center for these exceptions.
