Department Overview

The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department offers a variety of services for the residents of Oconomowoc through the Recreation Division and Parks and Forestry Division.

The Recreation Division provides leisure service opportunities by providing recreation programs, sports leagues, public parks and open spaces, waterfront services, and special events. The Parks and Forestry Division provide support services to the community by maintaining all City public parks / open spaces and managing the city’s urban forest.

We are proud to be a member of Tree City USA and Bird City. For more information on how you can get involved in either of these initiatives, please visit the links for Tree City and Bird City.

The City has developed two long range plans to assist with Parks, Recreation and Forestry opportunities for the City. The Common Council adopted the 2010 Park and Open Space Plan which reviews and updates the inventory of physical facilities and lands which make up the City’s Park and Open Space system. The plan is intended to provide guidance for future improvements and expansion of the system.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail Plan was developed in 2006. Oconomowoc wishes to become a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly community with greater opportunities for residents to travel both within the City and outside the City to regional destinations without motorized transportation.
